Growing a Family-Owned HVAC Company's Revenue 41% in One Year

Matt Near bought Wind Bender in 2023 and refused to run it like the private equity companies taking over the industry. We redesigned his website, built his digital presence around that difference and his geothermal specialty, and revenue grew 41% in a year.

~7xReturn on Every Ad Dollar

Wind Bender's revenue grew 41% year over year in 2025. The redesigned website now turns more than 15% of visitors into leads, the site and Google Business Profile dominate geothermal searches across their service area, and Google Ads returned six to seven times what they cost every month of the year. All of it happened while competing against private equity backed companies spending several times Wind Bender's budget.

The Challenge

Matt Near bought Wind Bender from its founder in 2023 with a simple promise: no commissioned techs, no pressure tactics, and honest prices. The problem was visibility. Private equity firms have been buying up HVAC companies across Ohio and outspending everyone on advertising, and Wind Bender had no digital marketing strategy, little organic presence, and no realistic way to outbid competitors with many times their budget.

The Goal

Make Wind Bender the company homeowners find first for geothermal heating and cooling in the Dayton and Columbus areas, and build a steady lead pipeline on a small budget by being smarter than the big spenders instead of trying to outspend them.

Our Strategy

Owning the Geothermal Niche

Every HVAC company fights over furnace and AC keywords, so we built Wind Bender's entire digital presence around the specialty almost nobody was competing for.

Geothermal heating and cooling is a real specialty for Wind Bender, and active federal and state tax credits make it a compelling upgrade for homeowners. We built the entire digital presence around that expertise, with content, photos, and local citations all pointed at geothermal searches. Wind Bender became the name homeowners in the Dayton and Columbus areas find first when they research it.

A Website Redesigned to Convert

We redesigned windbenderohio.com from the ground up for conversion, and more than 15% of visitors now become a lead.

The old site described services. The redesigned one books them. Every core service has its own conversion-focused page, scheduling a visit takes seconds from any screen, and the whole experience works just as well on a phone as it does on a desktop. More than 15% of visitors now turn into a lead, which multiplies the value of every other channel: the same ad budget and the same search rankings produce far more booked calls than they did before.

Google Ads on a Budget That Had to Work

Instead of a bidding war against private equity budgets, campaigns focused on high-intent local searches where competition is thinner and customers are more valuable.

Wind Bender could not win a spending contest, so we never entered one. Campaigns targeted homeowners actively searching for geothermal and core HVAC and plumbing services in their exact service area. Careful bid management and landing pages built for conversion kept returns between 6x and 7x every month of the year, and that lead flow compounded with the organic growth coming from SEO.

A Brand Built on Trust

We made Matt's no-commission, no-pressure approach the centerpiece of every touchpoint, because it is the one advantage big competitors cannot copy.

Homeowners increasingly distrust HVAC companies, and often for good reason: commissioned techs and aggressive upsells have become the industry norm. Every piece of Wind Bender's marketing, from website copy to ad creative to review responses, leads with honest pricing and technicians who are paid to fix things rather than sell things. A private equity brand cannot make that claim without it being false, which makes it the one advantage money cannot buy.

The Website

We redesigned windbenderohio.com around the geothermal specialty and Matt's honest, no-pressure approach, and more than 15% of visitors now become a lead. The site anchors both the SEO strategy and every ad campaign. Click through and explore it exactly as homeowners see it.

In our first year working with Scalable Marketing we experienced 40% growth year over year. Cole's flexibility and adaptability to our small business' needs have been instrumental to our success. We couldn't be happier with the partnership and look forward to many more years working together.
